Live Theatre is committed to developing positive relationships with schools across the North East of England. Live Theatre has a dedicated Education and Participation team which works with teachers and pupils to create bespoke projects and events that will capture the imaginations of both teachers and pupils. This includes delivering Theatre In Education projects, young writers projects and school residencies in harder to reach communities. Live Theatre is experienced in developing positive relationships with schools such as Theatre In Education projects, young writers projects, teacher training, and drama/literacy workshops to support a wide range of areas in the curriculum.

Current Projects

Live Tales opens for creative writing sessions for KS2 classes 

Live Tales, our fantastic brand new creative writing centre for children and young people officially opens in September.  Be one of the first schools to take advantage of this new learning resource and book your class in for a free story writing workshop.

Live Tales will encourage and inspire children and young people to explore their imagination, develop communication skills and confidence and help with their writing progression through a fun, creative story writing process.
In our two hour Live Tales workshops, children at Key Stage 2 will let their imaginations run wild to write a fantastic original story.  The first part of the story is written by the whole class then each child gets the opportunity to write their own individual ending to the story.

DATES: Thursdays and Fridays 10am – 12noon term time from Thurs 15 September until July 2017
LOCATION: Live Tales (situated just behind Live Theatre)
SUITABILITY: Key Stage 2 classes
LINKS TO CURRICULUM: English, Creative Writing, Writing Progression
COST: FREE, must be booked in advance

Write Stuff

For teenagers. The initiative focuses on developing speaking, listening and literacy skills through a series of practical drama-based workshops that will inspire young people to write.  Activities can take place in school, in community venues or at Live Theatre.

We can accommodate school groups to take part in historic tours of the building, post-show discussions, meet the director, meet the cast and backstage tours.

Live Theatre and Arts Award

Arts Award is a national qualification that supports young people to develop as artists and arts leaders. The award fosters creative, communication and leadership skills and helps to prepare young people for further education and employment. The Arts Award is an accredited qualification at three levels - Bronze, Silver and Gold. Live Theatre has delivered the Arts Award since 2013 with 100% pass rate.

Live Theatre is an Arts Award Supporter Venue

Live Theatre’s award-winning Education and Participation team can create bespoke projects to support the delivery of Arts Award, Artsmark and the curriculum. Activities can include young writer’s programmes, teacher training, drama workshops, historic tours of the building, plus a range of activities linked to our main productions, such as post show discussions, meet the team events and backstage tours. We have several performances accompanied by pre or post show discussions suitable for Arts Award and Arts Award Supporter this season:

Experiencing the arts as an audience member

Live Theatre’s programme currently includes drama for older pupils, visiting theatre productions and creative workshops.

Schools and groups can take advantage of our fantastic group booking offer. Tickets start at £5 and for every 10 tickets bought the 11th is free. Accompanying teachers also go free.

Exploring the work of artists and arts organisations

Live Theatre is home to a wide range of artists, theatre makers and practitioners. We can arrange artist talks, post and pre show discussions and tours to groups interested in finding out what goes on behind the scenes.
